About the Foundation:
The South Asian Long Term Care Foundation (Foundation) was registered as a Non-Profit organization under Societies Acts of Alberta in August 2008 also with a non-political and non-sectarian mandate. An application has been made with Canada Revenue Agency for charitable status. Current membership stands at 170 individual members and close to 20 supporting organizations. The Foundations has a board of 14 directors with an executive committee consisting of the President, Secretary, Treasurer and two Vice Presidents. A list of directors and executives is provided at the end of this submission. General body meetings are held once a year and board meetings are held first Monday of each month. There are no paid positions with the Foundation.
There are many fund raiser programs on which the Foundation has been working. The most recent was on February 12, 2011 in which over $ 50,000 were raised in a banquet. Press coverage of this banquet is provided at the end of this proposal.
The sole purpose of this Foundation is to build and operate a senior’s Home in South Edmonton with all the Best Management Practices as suggested in the City of Edmonton Planning Documents – The Way to Live and others.
Goal: Build and operate a 50 bed facility for seniors of South Asian origin in South Edmonton for assisted living and designated assisted living with provision to expand to long term care and nursing home.
Objectives:
- To operate a long-term residential care facility that will provide support services for aged, ill or disabled persons, including personal care, housekeeping, meals ,nursing, shopping assistance and transportation to medical appointments;
- To relieve loneliness and isolation of the aged and persons with disabilities by providing recreational, cultural and social activities; and
- To undertake activities ancillary and incidental to the aforementioned charitable purposes.
How the funds are going to be raised?
- Funds will be raised through banquets, radiothons, sponsorships, direct donations, and government grants at provincial and federal level.
- The fundraiser banquet held on February 12th, 2011 brought in over 600 guests and through pledges, over $ 50,000 has been collected.
